Tokyo Idol Festival 2018: Part 1

I’m not sure if I’ll be able to finish this series before Tokyo Idol Festival starts, but I wanted to make a post about all of the groups performing at Tokyo Idol Festival that I would recommend.

While I enjoy some of these groups, I won’t be doing big writeups on AKB48, AKB48 Team 8, SKE48, NMB48, HKT48, NGT48, STU48, BNK48, Hiragana Keyaki, =LOVE, Good Tears, Someday Somewhere, Choux Cream Rockets, Love Cocchi, Kobushi Factory, Tsubaki Factory, any of the Up Up Girls groups, Ayaka Sasaki, Shiritsu Ebisu Chuugaku, Team Syachihoko, Tacoyaki Rainbow, Tokimeki Sendenbu, Batten Shoujo Tai, Rock A Japonica, Hachimitsu Rocket, SUPER GiRLS, Wasuta,, Tokyo Girls’ Style, BiSH, BiS1st, BiS2nd, GANG PARADE, EMPiRE, BILLIE IDLE, or Maison book girl, since I want to write about lesser known groups. I’d definitely recommend Team 8, Team Syachihoko, Tacoyaki Rainbow, Tokimeki Sendenbu, Wasuta, and BiSH live. I haven’t seen =LOVE, STU48, Hachimitsu Rocket,, BiS, EMPiRE, or BILLIE IDLE live, but I’d like to.

Anyway, for part one, we’re going to be talking about special collaborations, selections of members, or solo performances that are going on for TIF! After that, I’ll go on to recommend the normal groups that are participating.

AKB48 TIF Senbatsu (8/3) and AKB48 Fresh Senbatsu (8/4)

AKB48 is sending two teams of girls: one of all the top AKB48 members and one of upcoming young and new members. It’s not often you get to see all the top AKB48 members together without members from other 48G groups and the Fresh Senbatsu is a good chance to see some of the members that will probably make it big in the next few years while they’re still relatively unknown.

Ayaka Sasaki (8/3)

Momoiro Clover Z member Aarin is back again for Tokyo Idol Festival! She always seems to be one of the most popular acts. I’m not sure how often she performs solo, but if she’s your favorite member of Momoiro Clover Z, it’s a cool chance to see her on her own.

BNK48 (8/4)

They’re from Thailand! It’s not often overseas idols show up at TIF, so I hope they get a warm welcome. It might even open the path for more overseas idol groups to perform at the festival.

Cattivo! (8/3)

Cattivo! is a TIF exclusive unit that’s kind of a parody of Buono!; while Buono! means delicious in Italian, Cattivo! means disgusting. It consists of former °C-ute member Chisato Okai, Kobushi Factory member Ayano Hamaura, and Tsubaki Factory member Kiki Asakura. I’m not sure if they’ll perform Buono! songs or what, but I’m sure it’ll be worth watching if you’re a Buono! fan or a Hello! Project fan in general.

DDT Pro Wrestling at TIF 2018 (8/3)

A number of actual pro wrestlers will be there, but more importantly, you can see Momomi Wagatsuma (Hakoiri Musume), Imoko Ikuggaki (SHINGEKI), Rise Shiokawa (Tenkou Shoujo*), Midori Nagatsuma (Choux Cream Rockets), Akari Saho (Up Up Girls), Aya Kajishima (Up Up Girls 2), and Mayu Yoshikawa (Up Up Girls 2) duke it out!

Gachinko (8/3)

Gachinko is a limited time unit that consists of Mai Haruna (Tacoyaki Rainbow), Maika Kimino (Hachimitsu Rocket), and Erena Sakamoto (HKT48). It was formed on a Fuji Television TV show after all of their singing abilities were determined to be impressive. The three of them wrote the lyrics to all of the songs. I’m a fan of Mai Haruna and Erena Sakamoto, so I really want to see footage of this.

Harada Suzuka (8/3 and 8/5)

Idol Renaissance recently disbanded, but Harada is still active! She’s only fifteen and  wants to continue as a singer-songwriter, so hopefully she’ll get a lot of support at TIF to help guide her towards that dream.

Want to jam out to idol songs in a club environment while the sexy CYBERJAPAN DANCERS show off their moves on stage? You’re in luck!

Idol Karaoke Battle (8/3 and 8/4)

I’m not sure which idols are participating, but a selection of idols with strong singing voices will be facing off to see who can score the best in karaoke.

Idol Summer Jamboree (8/4 and 8/5)

Yufu Terashima and members from Akishibu Project, 26ji no Masquerade, WHY@DOLL, Lovely DOLL, Up Up Girls, Sunmyu, SUPER GiRLS, Tokyo Girls’ Style, and Niji no Conquistador get together to sing.

Idol Summer Jamboree Acoustic (8/4)

Members from 3B Junior, AIS -All Idol Songs-, Choux Cream Rockets, Yanakoto Sotto Mute, Philosophy no Dance, Manekikecha, Houkago Princess, Osaka Shunkashuto, Wasuta, predia, and Akishibu Project get together to show off their vocal chops.

Idol Summer Jamboree U-16 (8/3)

The under 16 members of AIS -All Idol Songs-, CROWN POP, Task have Fun, Pandamic, and Magical Punchline get together and…I’m not exactly sure what they’re gonna do, but I’m sure it’ll be a blast if you’re a fan of the girls involved.

Kono Yubi Tomare! Season 2 in TIF 2018 (8/3)

HKT48’s Rino Sashihara will be live filming a show with =LOVE, Kobushi Factory, and Philosophy no Dance at TIF. If you want the chance to see Sasshi in the flesh or see some groups that don’t usually interact talk to each other, you might enjoy it.

Last Idol Family (8/5)

All of the Last Idol groups (Good Tears, Someday Somewhere, Choux Cream Rockets, Love Cocchi, and LaLuce) will be getting together to perform a special stage.

Ryuu♡Hako (8/4)

RYUTist and Hakoiri♡Musume are combining to make the Ryuu♡Hako unit. They’ve done it before and actually released a single together, but I like both groups, so I’d recommend it.

Tacoyaki Rainbow with Naniwonder Taconiji Band (8/4)

I love Tacoyaki Rainbow and if you go to TIF, you can get the unique experience of seeing them with a live band! I’m sure it’ll be awesome.

TIF Idol Quiz Finals (8/4)

Anna Asano (Magical Punchline), Yurina (Necopla), Yuma Iida (Junsui Cafe Latte), Yufu Terashima, and Julia Tomita (Idol College) face off to find out who is the idol trivia champion. I’m not sure if it’s idol based trivia questions or general trivia, but it might be entertaining.

TIF Nationwide Senbatsu Winner Stage (8/4)

If you want to see a selection of idol groups from all over the country, here’s a good way to do so. Junsui Cafe Latte (Tokyo), Kyushuu Joshi Yoku (Fukuoka), Mazeruna Kiken (Okayama), Fleurette (Shiga), Nidaime Happy Shoujo (Hokkaido), Gallop+ (Aichi), and Omiya I DOLL (Saitama) will be featured.

Tokyo Girls’ Style with Yuno Ohara (8/4 and 8/5)

Remember Dream5? I do! Yuno Ohara was a member of the group and is now active as an actress, model, and gravure idol. For some reason, she’s performing with Tokyo Girls’ Style! I’m not really sure why, but if you were a fan of Dream5 or want to watch a unique performance from Tokyo Girls’ Style, check it out.

WACK presents DREAMLIGHTS in TIF (8/4)

WACK is holding a special stage with shuffle units HOLY SHiTS and SAiNT SEX and soloists Aina The End and Yui ga Dokuson. HOLY SHiTS was formed this year and consists of Chicchi Cent Chihiro (BiSH), Maika Kyan GP (GANG PARADE), Peri Ubu (BiS), MUROPANAKO (BiS), Hana Toriaezu (BiS), and MAHO EMPiRE (…EMPiRE). SAiNT SEX was formed last year, but this time, ex-BiS member Pour Lui is out and current BiS member Gozeela is in. The rest of the members are the same: Aina The End (BiSH), Ayuni D (BiSH), Aya Eightprince (BiS), Saki Kamiya (GANG PARADE), Miki Yamamachi (GANG PARADE), and Yua Yumeno (GANG PARADE). Aina The End will be performing with Kenta Matsukuma, WACK’s main composer.

Yuu Serizawa (8/3)

Yuu Serizawa from i☆Ris will be performing as a soloist as well as with i☆Ris. Not sure if she has solo lives often, but either way, it’s a good opportunity to see her solo.

That’s it for part one! Look forward to part two, where I start to go over my normal TIF recommendations from A-Z!
